currencyapi returns the current exchange rates of 171 fiat currencies, 16 cryptocurrencies and 4 precious metals against any base currency, as JSON. Rates update daily on the free plan, hourly on Small and every 60 seconds from the Medium plan.

Response fields

meta.last_updated_at: When the returned rates were last updated (UTC).
data.{CODE}.code: The ISO 4217 code of the currency (or the crypto or metal code).
data.{CODE}.value: How much of the currency one unit of base_currency buys.

How often are the exchange rates updated?

Daily on the free plan, hourly on the Small plan and every 60 seconds on the Medium plan and above.

Which currencies does the API cover?

171 fiat currencies, 16 cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, Ethereum and others) and gold, silver, platinum and palladium. The /v3/currencies endpoint lists all of them with their symbols and decimals.

Can I choose the base currency?

Yes. Set base_currency to any supported currency; it defaults to USD.

Do you have historical exchange rates?

Yes, back to 1999, through /v3/historical for one day and /v3/range for a span of days.

How do I authenticate?

Send your API key in the apikey header or as the apikey query parameter. Every request needs HTTPS.
