These are the pTAX closing rates (selling) of the Banco Central do Brasil, against the BRL. Each value is shown both as the price of one unit of the currency in BRL and as the amount of the currency one BRL buys.

What happens on weekends and holidays?

The bank publishes nothing on those days. Rules that refer to a day without a publication usually mean the last rate published before it, which is what the API returns for such a date.
